Smocking Stitch

I've been knitting for 40 plus years and only began following patterns a fews years ago. After checking out a book from the library...I decided to challenge myself last night.

In my mind, I've been elevated to a "whole'nother level."

Dogs & Knitting

This is the first era of my life that I haven't owned a dog. I miss them. Luckily, most of my clients have dogs and some of my client work allow me to some quiet knitting time with their dogs. Above are Twila and Daisy waiting on my feet.

Village Yarn Shop-Zionsville

One of my 2011, New Year's resolutions is to become a better knitter. I've knitted almost everyday for the last three to four years, but it's always the same things. I've been knitting 40 years...I'd say it's time to learn something new.

So I signed up for lessons at the Village Yarn Shop, just one block from my house. My first class was a sock class & even though I know how to knit socks, I wanted to meet other knitters. I found it's hard to count stitches and rows when you are laughing.

I was more excited about Jane's one time class on starting a "clapotis." Now we are getting somewhere. I am now hooked on this drop stitch technique and can't wait to finish my first (pictured above) and start another. My clapotis is made with "Ella Rae, Lace Merino" made in Italy and sold at the Village Yarn Shop.

Visiting the Village Yarn Shop is the best resolution I've ever kept. I love everything about it. It is so open and welcoming; the colors and textures of the yarns is addictive. I recommend stopping in soon & often for a pick me up, not to mention, pick some new yarn up.

I am grateful for my mother..

My mom has been quilting for over 20 years. She taught me to knit and to sew. I love reminding her that she is an artist. Her quilts are all children, cherished and protected.

Ceramic Therapy

My "break up pitcher" with a poem by A. Rich hand painted on it. I highly recommend this form of emotional release, so that years later (this piece was made in 2002) you are reminded of how far you've come.

My Small "Acorn" style Zakka Pouch

I make the most pouches in this small style. They are great for carrying a cellphone, car keys, and sunglasses. I will carry a small pouch like this on a plane with a equally small knitting project inside.
